What’s this? I’m trying to blog once a day for 50 days! Inspired by Forking Mad and Lou Plummer.

How do you feel about alcohol? Is it something you enjoy? What do you like? What do you dislike?

What another oddly personal question!

I drink alcohol, mostly beer, but not often at all. I didn’t exactly have “wild and crazy” times in college drinking, but my first drink (excluding communion wine) was under the age of 21… at 19, in the Cavern Club, in Liverpool, where the legal drinking age is 18.

I’ll pivot here to a personal cause of mine: the clear superiority of living in a pedestrian-friendly city. One of the wonderful and dramatically underrated things about living in a big, pedestrian city is that I can go out to eat or to a work event and have alcohol without thinking about how I’m going to get back home. I just get on the subway - if a little unsteadily, in the very worst case. It absolutely blows my mind at the casual relationship that car-brained people have with drinking and driving. So much so that if anyone I know ever reads this, I assume they will get self-defensive on reading that last sentence!
