What’s this? I’m trying to blog once a day for 50 days! Inspired by Forking Mad and Lou Plummer.

What is or was your relationship with people from your parent’s generation?

I’m not really sure how to interpret this question. Good, I guess? If this is a “generational warfare” kind of question, it is true that my parents are almost but not quite Baby Boomers. In general, while I enjoy a good #OkBoomer meme, I have no specific animus towards boomers (or Gen-X for that matter!)

Here’s what I will say: when I was about 13, I remember being in the car with my dad and having some sort of angst-powered argument with my dad about “dressing up.” He was trying to tell me that for work or other events, I would sometimes have to wear nice clothes and a tie. I said that I was just not going to do that, and I think that annoyed him.

Well, dad, I’ve never worn a tie to work a day in my life! I wear shorts to work, logoed T-shirts - pretty much everything that the old guard thinks is wrong. And to be clear, my dad knows this and (I don’t think) does not think it represents societal downfall or anything. It’s just a generational difference (and a welcome one, in my opinion.)
